Join us on Thursday, May 22nd, from 14-16 hrs (German time) for the first RUSTLab lecture of this summer term. Anna Gonzalez Suero will present her work on “From Drawing to Storying: A Feminist Authoethnograhy of Artistic Identity”.
This lecture explores the evocative and creative aspects of autoethnography in relation to its feminist roots. Centered around Gonzalez Suero’s own drawing practice, it presents an artistic autoethnography of the increasing public representation of pregnant and fetal bodies in visual culture and the consequences of this visibility. The lecture offers insights into the value of evocative autoethnography, with its emphasis on storytelling, in making unrecognized experiences of gender known to an individual. Coming from the perspective of evocative autoethnography, Gonzalez Suero also discusses a study she recently conducted on autoethnography in Germany and its particular development over the past two decades.
Dr. Anna Gonzalez Suero is author of An Artistic Autoethnography on the Public Fetus: Feminist Perspectives (Routledge, 2025). She earned her PhD in Art from Goldsmiths, University of London. After completing her PhD, Gonzalez Suero was awarded a postdoctoral scholarship in the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus University Weimar for her project titled “Storying Artistic Research Using Methods of Autoethnography”.
